There’s a lot of options these days when it comes to having kids, but this one you may not have heard of – being hypnotized during child birth.
It’s the moment every parent waits for, their baby’s first cry, but this mom has a secret.
“It was my hypnosis,” said Sheridan Ripley, a mother who shared her Hypnobabies birth video with us.
She was hypnotized during child birth. In this video, you can see the hypnosis at work.
“I am using the peace cue,” said Ripley.
We went to a Hypnobabies class at a home in Katy to see what’s it’s all about.
There was music and specific color cues.
“Blue… think and imagine the word blue,” said Paige Clark, the Hypnobabies instructor.
All to help couples train their minds to block out pain.
“It’s basically a deep stage of relaxation,” said Clark.
There’s no magic wand or ticking clocks. This kind of hypnosis is taught in the comfort of a living room.
“I went into it thinking, I don’t know if it’s going to work,” said Michelle Morahan, a mother.
Morahan says it did.
“Kieran is 5 and a half months, so he will be 6 months on Valentine’s Day,” she said.
However, dad wasn’t sold right away.
“I was very dubious of course,” he said.
Instructors say when it’s done right, most couples report their child birth being pain-free.
“About 70 percent of our students will report that they only have pressure, tightening,” said Clark.
“I felt like I was more in control, I knew what was coming, I felt like I had a way to handle it,” said Michelle.
It’s a technique they say anyone can learn, as long as you are willing to close your eyes and imagine.
